After taking the second place on Ironman Malaysia, Edith Niederfriniger gave us a little more details about the race itself. Here is what she had to say to us:
IM Malaysia 2010 was a sort of revenge for me, because 2009 I also was at Langkawi ready for the race, but 2 days before the start I got a terrible headache, caused from a compressed nerv in my cervical spine and so...DNS!
So this year I was looking forward to finish this race!
I felt good the days coming up to race day and was confident. My swim start was very fine, I managed to swim with the first group until half of the swim course, but I made a mistake turning the buoy and lost this group! So I had to swim all way back alone...
Ok, no worries, after the first part of the race I was in 3rd position among the pro women. I felt strong on the bike for the whole 180km, which surprised me a little bit, because during european winter I biked only for 3 weeks outside, the rest of the training was on the windtrainer and I have not done a lot of km....anyway I passed one women on the bike and came to T2 in 2nd position. The only problem
during the marathon was the heat, it was damn hot! So the first half of the run part I tried to catch the leading women, but she was too strong and so I decided to make sure to finish in 2nd place, which was a really good result for my first race 2010 and makes me confident about the upcoming races!

My next race will be the first edition of the Abu Dhabi Triathlon held on 13th March, so time in between these races is short and all my focus is set on recovery! And the good thing is, that after this 2nd place I don't feel any pressure mentally.
Thank you edith, great performance again!!
