Some time ago I read somewhere that you started swimming just after your 2001 accident as a rehab activity.Had you ever swum before this? Massimo:Well let's put it this way: yes, in 2001 on the rehab I was advised to swim, but I only started to swim regularly  in 2004, when I finished cycling. My rehab adviser was a triathlete and  thanks to him I started triathlon as a new career opportunity. The only other sport I did was gymnastics at the age of 8, which I did  for two years.

Congratulations on your Ironman Florida 3rd place. Would you tell us more about the race?

Massimo: I am happy with this result, although I went there to win. Unfortunately the sea conditions were hard for me, so I lost too much time there. When the water is calm I swim much better. On the bike it was very windy so I decided not to push too hard in order to save energy for the marathon.

You achieved 3rd place in Timberman Ironman also. How was it?

Timberman is a very good race. It is a captivating location with green forests and a hilly track. I like it because of  the heat and humidity which I can tolerate well, because we have similar conditions where I live in Italy.About the race: I (pushed) too hard on the bike so my legs were not fast enough for the marathon.Unfortunately, I had to quit running for 11 months, so consequently my running is still  not as good as it was before the injury.70.3_Austria_bike

Will you compete in Laguna Phuket and why is it your favourite race?

Massimo: Yes I will race there again. It is my favourite race, because it is not only a race but a party! It is held when it is winter in Italy, so it is the best way to combine competition with holidays. So the weather is perfect, white sand, warm water, friendly people and good organization.

Can you give some good advice for readers about diet during the race?

Massimo:During a race I advise everybody to eat a lot. On the bike I eat one energy bar every 30 minutes and one energy gel every 5 km on the run. What about sponsors?

Massimo: Well, I do not have a main sponsor but have some minor ones to help me do what I like to do. At the moment I ride a Maxlelli bike and I swim in a Sailfish wetsuit. I still do not know how it's gonna' be next year.

What about your 2010 schedule and will you have a rest before that?

Massimo: well, when I get back to Italy I will have a short holiday, then I will decide where to compete next year. What is sure for now is that I want to do the Austria 70.3 and the  Kona Word Championships, but there may be some more races that I will choose for next year`s schedule.

Thank you Massimo, we wish you good luck and Triathlete Magazine will follow you in 2010 also.
