As the best Portuguese ironman distance athlete, could you talk about your last season?
2009 was a good year overall, I had great domestic races, was 8th in the toughest ironman in the world (Lanzarote) with the fastest run, got a 11th place in Prague LD European champs which was good I think, but I could finish well inside the top10 if it wasn’t my destroyed feet that slowed me down almost to a walk,

Let's talk about the 2009 Ironman European Championships first. You have won the Ironman European Championships again after 2007! How was the race, how do you value this title? It was my best race ever: Hot and fast wetsuit swim, challenging bike ride, and a tactical and in the end very fast marathon to finish under 8 hours.

Would you talk about Busselton, your last big success?I went to Busselton to get my slot for Hawaï as I didn’t finish the race in Kona this year because of the penalty I was given on the bike. I didn’t run the marathon in Hawaï and it was easier for me to train again for Busselton after my DNF.In Australia everything was perfect and thanks to my marathon I won for the 7th time an Ironman, the 8th if we add Roth.

Congratulations on your Cozumel podium, how was the race?
Edith: my race was a very solid race, I did Hawaii only 7 weeks ago and decided to go to Cozumel after 3 weeks of "holiday" after Hawaii - so it was a kind of last minute decision!... I had a very good swim and a strong bike ride,
during the run I suffered a bit more then usually....well, my preparation wasn't really good,

What kind of sport did you do as a child? When did you start doing triathlon? How did you become familiar with the long distance? My sports career began at the age of ten. After running as a youth, my teacher, Edit Soós suggested that I focus on duathlon races as well. Thanks to her, I participated in several world games

Graeme Stewart, you were the first Scottish athlete to break 8hrs30min for an Ironman but you are also a full time cancer research scientist. How can you cope with the challenges of these two fields timewise? It’s pretty tough! I train in the morning, often spend the day on my feet then train at night. I always say, you need a low emotional attachment to fatigue if that makes senses.

We know from the news that you did not have an optimal season, due to injuries. What problems set you back in the 2009 season? Faris:I had problems with my hamstrings and lower back and the search for the cause took some time. Basically my run times both on shorter and longer distances,
Ferenc Szonyi and Karoly Breurer-Orban
Ferenc Szonyi of Hungary is the new World Champion of Deca(10X) Ironman. The game is very easy to explain: competitors have to complete one Ironman/day for 10 consecutive days. Our new Deca Ironman World Champion averaged approximately 11 hrs 30 mins over the 10 days. I think everybody admits that this is an extraordinary and almost unbelievable effort, which should be recognised...Results here.
