Last year's winners of Bonita Ironman New Zealand Cameron Brown and Joanna lawn repeated their success of last year. Cameron Brown needs only one more victory for his 10th win at Ironman New Zealand which would be an absolute world record. No other triathlete has ever won the same Ironman event 9 times in triathlon history. On the bike, at least, it looked like the race belonged to event second place finisher Terenzo Bozzone who built up a significant lead over Brown, but Cameron Brown performed a 2:47 marathon run, which was enough to take the title again, for the 9th time .
In the women's field Joanna Lawn took the gold for the 7th time, which is as unbelievable as Cameron Brown's performance.K-Swiss team member Terenzo Bozzone, who was in the lead during the bike and took an early lead on the run, finishes in second place for the second year in a row.
Lawn came back strongly after losing her title last year to Gina Ferguson,who now goes by the name of Crawford after her marriage. Crawford held strong in the late stages of the run against a charging Kim Loeffler to finish in second place today.
